Corbett National Park
The Corbett National Park, where Project Tiger was launched in 1973, is regarded
as India's finest national park and its major attractions are the Tiger, Indian
Elephant and Leopard.Corbett national park is drained by the Ramganga river,
the dam at Kalagarh forming a huge lake to the west of the national park. The
park is essentially a large low valley.
Dudhwa
National Park
Further east along the Terai, the Dudhwa National Park, which is also a Tiger
Reserve, is located in the district of Lakhimpur - Kheri, very close to the
Nepal border.
Gir
National Park
Created to protect the last wild population of Lion outside the African regions,
Gir National Park is situated in the southwest of the peninsular state of Gujarat.
Spread over an area of 116 square-miles, the Gir sanctuary has been home to
lions since 1913 when the Lion population over here fell drastically to just
20 animals.
Kaziranga
National Park
Located on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River in the far North East of
India, Assam, Kaziranga National Park covers an area of approximately 430-sq-kms
with its swamps and tall thickets of elephant grass making it the ideal habitat
for the Indian One-Horned Rhino. Due to limitless poaching of this prehistoric
survivor, the Kaziranga National Park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1940.
Ranthambore
National Park

The 392 sq km of Ranthambhore National Park is perhaps Indias finest example
of Project Tiger, a conservation effort started by the government in an attempt
to save the dwindling number of tigers in India. Situated near the small town
of Sawai Madhopur, the Park has seen its ups and downs, and there were times
not so long ago when poachers were having a field day in the Park.
Sunderbans
National Park
This park is located in the vast swampy delta of two great Indian rivers, the
Brahmaputra and the Ganga, in West Bengal. It extends over a vast area. mangrove
forests, swamps and forested islands, covering over 1,300 sq. km.
Keoladeo
Ghana National Park

Amongst India’s premier wildlife sanctuaries is the Keoladeo Ghana National
Park, Bharatpur, situated at the border between the states of Rajasthan and
Uttar Pradesh. It’s a marshy area, stretching over 29 sq km of kadam forests,
grasslands and shallow lakes. Created by the Maharaja of Bharatpur in the 19th
century by diverting water from an irrigation canal, Keoladeo was founded as
a shooting preserve, but given the status of a bird sanctuary in 1956.
Sariska
National Park
Sariska National Park lies in the Aravalli hills and is the former hunting preserve
of the Maharaja of Alwar. The reserve was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1958
and came under the "Project Tiger" as a tiger reserve in 1979. The park covers
quite a large area of 800 square kilometers, 480 square kilometers of which
form the core area of the national park.
Bandipur
& Nagarhole National Park

In Karnataka, the two attractive wildlife parks of Nagarhole and Bandipur, though
separate entities, are part of a larger contiguous wildlife reserve that includes
the Mudumafai Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu and the Waynad Reserve in Kerala. Both
the parks are easily accessible from Mysore. The 874.20 sq. km.
Periyar
National Park
Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve is set high in the ranges of the Western
Ghats in Kerala. The park has a picturesque lake at the heart of the sanctuary.
Formed with the building of a dam in 1895, this reservoir meanders around the
contours of the wooded hills, providing a perennial source of water for the
local wildlife.
Nanda
Devi National Park

The nanda Devi National Park, spread over 630 sq. kms. of area in the vicinity
of nanda Devi Peak (25, 675 ft./7816 mts), India's second highest mountain has
a unique combination of flora and fauna. The park was established in 1980 and
inclues some of the hightest mountain peaks of the western Himalayas.
Bandhavgarh
National Park
This is a small National Park, but with the highest known density of tiger population
in India.The Bandhavgarh National Park is located within the district of Sahdol
in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.It is Situated at a distance of
195 km from Jabalpur and 225 km from Khajuraho. The Bandhavgarh National Park
is a premier wildlife preserve in the Vindhya mountain range of Central India.Areas
consists primarily of Sal(Shorea robusta) forests, which is the main tree-cover
found in the entire park. Before becoming a national park, it was the game reserve
of the Maharajas of Rewa.
